2000 Zinfandel, Russian River Valley,
Elsbree Vineyard, Estate Bottled
Crane
Canyon Elsbree Vineyard is our first Estate Bottled Zinfandel. The Elsbree
Vineyard is situated at the base of the picturesque Russian River Valley
foothills, in Windsor, California. The Elsbree Vineyard is on a beautiful south
facing hillside just uphill from the Eagan Vineyard (see our 1999 Crane Canyon
Zinfandel). The vines are meticulously, and personally tended by our partner
Chuck Elsbree. They enjoy a perfect microclimate for Zinfandel, just beyond the
eastern reach of early morning coastal fog but benefiting from the warmth of the
southern slope. In 2000 we limited vineyard production to less than 2.0 tons per
acre resulting in a wine of wonderful richness and complexity. Fermentation was
in small, open-top fermenters. 750 cases produced.
Notes:
The deep opaque robe of our 2000 Zinfandel prepares one for a richly extracted
wine with perfumed aromas of pepper, black cherry and chocolate truffles. Rich
layers of dark fruit are accented by toasted oak and vanilla, and embraced by
smooth tannins. This Dionysian beauty is brooding and decadent though gracefully
textured. Think Churchill, sitting by a fire, signature cigar in hand, eyeing
the cheese plate, in the afterglow of his Beef Wellington supper.
