Crane Canyon Cellars
2000 Sangiovese
Somers Vineyard, Dry Creek Valley
In
the coastal hill towns of Mediterranean Italy, a mysterious perfume fills the
air on summer afternoons. A scent of wild herbs, lavender, bay, sage, thyme,
rises from the earth, distilled by the intense summer sun and wafted by slow,
summer breezes. The 2000 Sangiovese captures this fragrance, blends it with
vibrant raspberry and delivers it to your dinner table.
Brought to California by Italian immigrants in the late
1800's, Sangiovese is enjoying a renewed interest more than a century later. The
Crane Canyon Cellars 2000 Sangiovese (Dry Creek Valley, Somers Vineyard) is a
wine with intense perfume, bright fruit and spice, and sufficient acid to
accompany the rich sauces of Italy. It is ready to drink now, but will age
beautifully over the next three or four years. Only 574
cases were produced.
Winemakers' Notes
The perfect match for any Italian dish with rich tomato sauce,
olives, capers, anchovies, roasted vegetables and red meats. The balanced
tannins and acidity insure a wine with a long, vibrant life. Think Botticelli,
on a warm summer night, enjoying pasta primavera, while gazing upon his Birth of
Venus, by candlelight.
