Crane Canyon Cellars
2000 Pinot Noir
Russian River Valley
Pinot Noir aficionados agree that the Russian River
appellation in Sonoma County is the most ideally suited region for growing
this varietal in North America. Coastal air vents throughout the Russian
River basin in the evening, lowering a veil of fog which dissipates in the
late mornings, providing the cooler nighttime temperatures needed to
produce the finest Pinot Noir. Warm afternoons allow for slow steady
ripening of fruit, creating an intensity balanced with acidity for overall
structure and aging potential. Winemakers Gardner Britt and Patrick
Imbimbo produce a handcrafted wine that displays the best attributes of
the Russian River fruit. Crane Canyon Cellars Pinot Noir is classic: well
balanced, complex and finishing with layers of flavor.
Winemakers' Notes
The vibrant color of the 2000 Pinot Noir belies the richness
of its extraction. For those who think wine must be deeply colored to be deeply
extracted, let this wine be a lesson. The cherry bouquet leaps from the glass,
boosted by subtle wafts of toasty oak, vanilla bean and toasted coconut. The
rich viscosity coats the palate, and the finish lingers and lingers. Check out
the legs - they take almost a minute to form on the side of the glass, and then
slowly glide down like a Rudolph Nuryev leap in slow motion.
