Crane Canyon Cellars
2000 Mourvèdre Rosé
Noble Vineyard - Knights Valley
The
2000 Noble Vineyard Mourvèdre Rosé is one of Crane Canyon's flagship wines. It
is a dry rosé modeled after the wonderful wines of Provence in southern France.
We believe Mourvèdre is the perfect grape for this style wine. It provides the
beautiful salmon- pink color, crisp acidity and rich complexity that surprise
those drinkers expecting a simple quaffer. This is a marvelous wine for pairing
with food. Its combination of crisp, cleansing acidity and subtle but complex
flavors complement virtually all types of cuisine from hearty Italian, to spicy
Asian, to Thanksgiving dinner. Only 125 cases were produced.
Winemakers' Notes
The delicate salmon pink color has an almost pearly radiance,
reminding one of a sunset in Provence. On the nose is an intensely fragrant,
layered bouquet of rose petal and orange blossom. The flavors of strawberry,
kiwi and watermelon are always present but a careful study also reveals a rich
creaminess with hints of crème bruleé. The intensely rich fruit almost glides
across the tongue, with a mouthfeel that is unctuous, textured and rich. True
connoisseurs of Mourvèdre know that there is a slight bitter tang toward the
end of the taste. This hallmark of Mourvèdre acts as a beautiful complement to
the lush fruit, cleansing the palate and making it play off the food dish. This
wine is sophisticated, delicate but not shy, a classy wine in a pink package.
Think John Singer Sargent listening to Vivaldi while grilling Andouille sausage.
