Crane Canyon Cellars
1999 Pinot Noir
Russian River Valley
Pinot Noir aficionados agree that the Russian River
appellation in Sonoma County is the most ideally suited region for growing
this varietal in North America. Coastal air vents throughout the Russian
River basin in the evening, lowering a veil of fog which dissipates in the
late mornings, providing the cooler nighttime temperatures needed to
produce the finest Pinot Noir. Warm afternoons allow for slow steady
ripening of fruit, creating an intensity balanced with acidity for overall
structure and aging potential. Winemakers Gardner Britt and Patrick
Imbimbo produce a handcrafted wine that displays the best attributes of
the Russian River fruit. Crane Canyon Cellars Pinot Noir is classic: well
balanced, complex and finishing with layers of flavor.
Winemakers' Notes
The vibrant, deep purple robe is a harbinger of the intense
extraction of the 1999 Pinot Noir. A rich bouquet of black cherry, chocolate,
hints of spice and soft vanilla from the French oak. The mouthfeel is
pour-over-pancake rich with an expansive mid-palate that gains in complexity as
it lingers and lingers, slowly tapering off into a suggestion of dried cherries.
Gentle tannins and great structure support its showy elegance. A peacock feather
fan of colors on the palate. Think roast duck by the fireplace in winter while
listening to Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.
